The U.S. should firewall itself from Iran-Israel hostilities

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Iran fired missiles at Israel. Defense Priorities Middle East Director Rosemary Kelanic issued the following statement in response:

“Iran’s missile barrage in retaliation for Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon represents a dangerous escalation of this already tragic conflict. Unfortunately, by surging yet more military forces to the Middle East in recent days, the United States has only encouraged Israel’s brinkmanship and raised the risk of a war with Iran that serves no U.S. interest. The U.S. must lessen, not increase, its exposure to the region’s violence. If the past 20 years of failed policy have taught us nothing else, conflict in the Middle East is quicksand. The more the U.S. fights it, the deeper we are drawn in.”
